People that Made a Town

     The early settlers were a hardy group of people.  When they entered the area, they discovered a region that provided a plentiful supply of animals roaming dense forest areas with numerous streams and springs flowing through the land.  To the early settlers it seemed that they had found the perfect location to build a new life.    The new arrivals came from many states including Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, Ohio and Delaware.  They came from various ethnic groups….Scotch-Irish and German ancestry predominately.  The earlier settlers were mainly farmers and traders.  Soon enterprising entrepreneurs saw the need for their services.  Physicians, preachers, carpenters, hardware establishments, blacksmiths, leather suppliers and many other businesses came to offer their services.
